APPRENTICESHIPS ALIVE AND WELL AT MITCHELLS RENAULT IN LOWESTOFT

For immediate release: Thursday, 3rd November 2011

Mitchells Lowestoft has recently taken on a new technician in its busy Renault workshop.

George Shiplee, aged 17, has started a three-year apprenticeship with Mitchells Lowestoft, having already completed one year of an NVQ in motor vehicle technology.

The dealership apprenticeship scheme lasts three years and combines workshop experience with classroom-based training.

Glenn Smith, service manager at Mitchells Lowestoft, said: “Many people think apprenticeships died out years ago, but here at Mitchells, we’re keen to invest in young talent. People like George are keen to learn so it’s fitting that we can give him a good start in the motor industry.

“So far, he has done extremely well, and the apprenticeship has proved to be very beneficial to him and also to the team here in the workshop.”

Matthew Huke-Jenner, dealer principal at Mitchells Renault added: “Apprenticeships offer young people the opportunity to learn on the job. George supplements his days in the workshop with day release at college, and it’s great to see his progress.”
