NATIONAL SPACE CENTRE VISITORS STAR-STRUCK BY FUTURISTIC TWIZY

Renault Leicester’s ‘Plugged In’ electric vehicle showcase at the city’s National Space Centre last Friday, 15th June, and Saturday, 16th June, proved a major success with Renault Twizy, Renault Fluence Z.E. and Renault Kangoo Van Z.E each pulling in the crowds.

Sales Manager Annie Cooper and Electric Vehicle Specialist Darryl Davison were both on hand at the Exploration Drive visitor hot-spot to help explain the futuristic technology of Renault’s ever-expanding EV range.

“The National Space Centre was the perfect backdrop to showcase our brand new Electric Vehicle Range”, commented Davison, “We had so much interest from the general public visiting the Space Centre and we had invited guests from the local business community and existing fleet companies.”

Renault Twizy, the newest of the manufacturer’s electric vehicles, unsurprisingly grabbed the lion’s share of the attention with its radical looks and unique style. The two-seater, designed for the driver and one passenger to sit in tandem, is an ideal choice for city driving with first class eco-friendly credentials – perfect for the busy roads in the middle of Leicester.

British Handball’s preparations for the Olympic Games have been given a major boost after they teamed up with Renault.

The women’s team are being driven to success at the Games, which start this month, with the use of a Renault Espace and a Master van, used by both the mens and womens teams, to transport them and their kit to training and pre-Games matches.

Decorated in decals from Renault Croydon and other British Handball partners, the vehicles have been loaned by Renault Croydon who have been keen to make sure the final stages of their preparations are as relaxed as they can be.

Four members of the 14-strong squad Lynn McCafferty, Lyn Byl, Yvonne Leuthold and Laura Innes took time out from their busy training schedule to meet management and staff at the Brighton Road dealership where they gave them an insight into the sport, expected to be one of the success stories of the Games.

Renault Croydon General Manager Chris Deefholts said they were delighted to be working alongside the British team. “In any sport the difference between winning and losing can be tiny, so anything we can do that may give our team the best preparations possible, could help make the difference.

“We are  always keen to help local sporting teams and other organisations in whatever way we can, so when the British women’s handball team needed transportation, we were happy to help.”
Based at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, the team have been training hard in preparation for the Olympics with handball now being one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Tens of thousands of children and young people across the country are being introduced to the sport as part of plans to fully harness the potential legacy from the London Olympics.

British Handball Chief Executive Paul Goodwin said: “We are very grateful to Renault Croydon for the help they are giving us. Logistically there are a lot of people to move about as we prepare and participate in the world’s largest sporting event, and the vehicles Renault Croydon have provided will make life a lot easier.

“With the bold decals we are turning a few heads which helps lift the profile of our sport as we travel across the country for training, matches and promotions.”
