KANGOO VAN Z.E AND FLUENCE Z.E. ON THE ROAD AT FLEETWORLD EV SHOW!

KANGOO VAN Z.E AND FLUENCE Z.E. TAKE TO THE ROAD
AT FLEETWORLD EV SHOW
Fleet managers and contract hire companies were among the first people in the country to drive two of the electric vehicles from Renault’s eagerly-awaited four-strong Z.E. (Zero Emission*) family earlier this week.
Visitors to the Fleetworld Electric Vehicle Showcase at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham put the Kangoo Van Z.E. and Fluence Z.E. saloon through their paces around a dedicated four-mile test drive circuit.
The Fluence Z.E., a four-door medium-sized saloon, is one of the first examples to appear in the country, ahead of its official launch here next Spring. Its UK price and specification will be announced when reservations start to be taken in June, however, a European price was recently announced for an online launch version at  26,000 euros (circa £22,900 at current exchange rate, £17,900 after the Plugged In Car Grant), excluding any relevant national incentives, plus 79 euros (£67) per month battery lease.
With its roomy interior, cutting-edge technology and comfort, combined with its responsive and quiet motor, it is already attracting considerable attention from private and business motorists alike, who are looking to save on fuel costs, as well as benefit from its respect for the environment. It is  a credible option for fleet users and attracted many compliments on the day.
Also on show, was the Kangoo Van Z.E., featuring the same practical functions as its internal combustion-engined sister products, plus the same load capacity (ranging from 3 to 3.5m³), payload (650kg) and high level of comfort. The Kangoo Van Z.E. range starts from £16,990 excluding VAT, with £59 monthly (excluding VAT) battery lease over four years/9,000 miles.
Darren Payne, Renault UK’s Director of Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations, was impressed with the response from potential buyers, commenting, “It’s very exciting for us to be able to start letting business customers get behind the wheel of our Z.E. range so they can see for themselves all the intrinsic benefits of driving and running electric vehicles.
“Renault will be the first manufacturer to offer a full range of electric vehicles and there’s been a massive sense of expectation. Several large organisations and local authorities have already expressed interest in the Renault Z.E. range, and we’ve already witnessed that many potential customers have done their homework on electric vehicles. They’re keen to learn more on every aspect of electric vehicle ownership and how they will enhance their businesses as part of busy fleets, and the feedback on the drives has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Drivers rated the performance and lack of noise very highly and were particularly impressed with the comfort, quality of finish and the fact that they both drive like conventional diesel and petrol-powered models.”
More information on the Renault Z.E. range is available at www.renault-ze.com.

Fleetworld EV Showcase!

The world of electric vehicles is not far away! We've just returned from the Fleetworld Electric Vehicle Showcase at the National Motorcycle Museum which was an eye-opening look into how electric vehicles would work in practice with interesting questions raised on everything to battery life, residual values and total cost of ownership.
In a UK exclusive, guests were invited to drive the Kangoo ZE and the Fluence ZE, both of which received overwhelmingly positive feedback over looks, driveability and lack of road noise.

SHOPPERS EXPERIENCE RENAULT F1 RACE CAR THANKS TO AUTOPLANET

Handbags and gladrags were for once not the only attraction drawing shoppers to the West Quay Shopping Centre this weekend as visitors came to catch a glimpse of the Renault F1 Team GP race car on display thanks to Renault dealer AutoPlanet.

The Formula 1 machine – as driven by Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov last season – was part of the Southampton dealership’s display and had parents and children alike stopping in their tracks to view the impressive car.

Alongside the 2010 Renault Formula 1 car, visitors also go to view popular models from the Renault road-range such as the Clio Renaultsport 200 which stars in Renault’s new Va Va Voom advertising campaign alongside Thierry Henry, Dita von Teese and Rihanna.

Ryan Tanner, aged 12, and nine-year-old brother Aaron (pictured) from Cadnam in the New Forest were among the many guests who had their picture taken with the Renault Formula 1 car.

David Scurry, General Manager at AutoPlanet on Second Avenue, added: “We were overwhelmed with the number of people who visited our display this weekend to view the impressive Renault Formula 1 car. People so rarely get the chance to see a car like this up close and for free and it certainly proved popular with the people of Southampton.

“The weekend also allowed us to showcase many of the favourite models from the Renault range as well as chat to customers outside of the showroom.”

INAUGURAL MEDIA DAY SIGNALS OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN TO 2011 FORMULA RENAULT BARC SERIES

The countdown to the start of the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship officially began today, Friday, 18th March, as the series hosted its first ever media day at the world-famous Silverstone circuit.

An impressive 18 drivers, with even more expected, took the opportunity to introduce themselves to the attending media before the opening rounds of the season at Donington Park on 23rd/24th April.

Organisers also used the event to unveil two new initiatives for the one-make single-seater series beginning with the announcement of a new hospitality suite for drivers, teams and sponsors. Operated by leading suppliers Williams Hospitality Ltd, the new race centre is a first for the series offering competitors even more value for money.

The second was the announcement of the Championship’s exclusive Driver Fitness Programme run by the Lotus Renault GP Team giving drivers a direct link with a Formula 1 outfit.

The day also coincided with official pre-season testing for the Championship with Antel Motorsport’s Dino Zamparelli once more topping the timesheets with the Bristol teenager posting a best time of 55.432s (106.44mph average) around the 1.64-mile track. There was little to separate him though from nearest rival Archie Hamilton as the Hook racer, driving for Fortec Motorsport, ended the day a mere 0.332s off the pace.

Scorpio’s Hector Hurst, from Lymington, again showed good pace throughout the four timed sessions as did Hillspeed’s latest signing Howard Fuller. Hillspeed also impressed with Telford’s James Theodore who was testing in the absence of Sean Walkinshaw (due to exams) and remains a possibility for the series.

Many of the Championship’s newcomers were also able to gain good mileage with the likes of Antel Motorsport’s Callum Bowyer, MTech’s James Thorp, MGR Motorsport’s Matt Mason and SWB Motorsport’s Macaulay Walsh and Jack Dex all gaining ground.

With still a month to go before the start of the season, many teams also indicated the possibility of further driver signings with 21-year-old Kieran Vernon, who attended the day, among those to have expressed an interest.

Commenting after heading the timesheets in testing Zamparelli said: “Today was a good session and both Archie [Hamilton] and I got good runs on new tyres so these times are hopefully a good representation of our pace. We’ll probably do a few more tests between now and the opening rounds but so far I’m pleased with how things have gone.”

Championship Promoter Simon North added: “Our first media day has certainly been a great success and the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Series looks set to be a fantastic season. We’re very pleased to be able to offer our teams and drivers added value with measures such as our new hospitality suite and everyone is looking forward to getting the season underway.”

The opening rounds of the season take place at Donington Park on 23rd/24th April.

2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Media day at Silverstone

Thanks to everyone who came along to the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC media day at Silverstone!

Our vision for the championship is that it continues to work and thrive with all of the ingredients that have made it a success for the last few years.

We now want to improve and move the game on, and one important factor in a high-profile championship such as ours is the image of motorsport. To this end, we've listened to your feedback and we've introduced first-class hospitality from leading supplier Williams Hospitality Ltd for teams, drivers and guests.

As well as providing a meeting point and race centre, the new hospitality centre will offer nutritious meal options for breakfast and lunch, along with hot and cold drinks throughout the race weekends.

Make yourself known – First of all be sure to introduce yourself to your media officer and keep him up to date with anything that may be of interest to him and/or the Championship. If he doesn’t know it he can’t act on it!

Print – Both Autosport and Motorsport News feature regular coverage of the series and send journalists to report on race meetings. They will want to talk to you so make yourself known and don’t hide in your awning all weekend.

Television - Subject to the timetable, the final round(s) of the season will be shown on ITV4, ITV4 HD and ITV’s own website. This is a fantastic selling point for the series so make the most of it.  Podium finishers may also have to do TV interviews so be sure to hand around afterwards. This is also your chance to name drop so mention all those sponsors!

Photography – Jakob Ebrey provides comprehensive coverage of both championships. These images are free to download from his website – www.jakobebrey.co.uk/renault - and are copyright free. Use them to your advantage. Send them to sponsors or use them on your website.

Web – The Championship has its own dedicated website which receives around 40,000 hits per month. Race results, reports, photos, points etc are all uploaded to www.renaultsport.co.uk after each race weekend.

Social Media – This year we are increasing our social media exposure and now have a dedicated Facebook page and YouTube channel. Be sure to get involved with both. Post on the Facebook page and let your sponsors know about it. Throughout the year you will also be asked to be filmed for the YouTube site – don’t miss your opportunity to get involved.

Driver Profiles – Every driver has a driver profile containing information about them and their racing career along with listings of any sponsors. These are handed to members of the media and raceday commentators . They are also posted on the renaultsport.co.uk website which receives some 40,000 hits a month. Therefore, it makes sense to ensure these are up-to-date. The media officer will endeavour to do this but always let him know of any changes, new sponsors etc to help promote yourself.

Race Meetings – Every race meeting a race report will be sent out to national print, web and radio media. For regional press, we generate a media list for EVERY driver of their local papers and send a bespoke version to them after the weekend. The media officer may also ask you to assist with meeting and greeting guests/sponsors during a race weekend. It’s in your best interest to take part, so please be willing.

Raceday Commentators –  Every event will have a circuit commentator. The media officer will update them but should you wish to have anything in particular read out over a race weekend, such as a new sponsor, then please let the media officer know in advance.

Podium – If you are one of the top three finishers you will be led to the podium by the media officer after the race . He will also hand you a cap which must be worn throughout the presentation and any following interviews.  If you are one of these drivers it is essential to reach the podium as quickly as possible. Time is very limited and the more time you spend getting there the less time you’ll have giving interviews. After the podium you will have several media interviews to do so please do not wander off!

Be Careful – Finally always be mindful of what you say. Whilst journalists can help promote you they will also be looking for juicy quotes so think before you speak!

The day was also an opportunity to remind drivers to increase their profiles by making as much use as possible of their dedicated media officer! If you're doing anything exciting, be sure to let him know!

RENAULT MANCHESTER JOINS FIGHT TO TACKLE NUMBER PLATE THEFT

Renault Manchester showed its support this weekend for a new campaign by Greater Manchester Police to help reduce number plate theft in the area.

On Saturday, 12th March, staff at Renault Manchester joined police officers in a day-long event held at the dealership on Trinity Way, Salford, to hand out special tamper proof screws to motorists free of charge.

One of Renault Manchester’s qualified technicians was also on hand to help motorists fit the special screws to their vehicles which, once applied, are very hard to undo. Police officers also offered advice to motorists about how to avoid having their vehicles broken into.

Number plate theft is a growing problem in the UK with the latest police figures showing that there are currently more than 40,000 sets of number plates stolen every year in the country from car, vans and commercial vehicles.

Fiona James, Crime Reduction Advisor for Salford who was there on the day, said: “The screws only take a couple of minutes to fix to your number plate but could make all the difference between it being stolen or not.

“People that have their number plates stolen usually receive parking and speeding fines, which take time to resolve and can cause a lot of stress and inconvenience.”

Geoff Harrison, Service Manager at Renault Manchester, added. “The day was a great success and we’re delighted we could help the police out with this growing problem. Fitting the tamper proof screws can help cause a lot of unnecessary headaches to motorists and we hope this event has not only helped our customers but helped spread the message to other drivers in the area.”

For more information on Renault Manchester on Trinity Way, call 0161 252 0000 or log onto www.renaultretail.co.uk.

RENAULT BIRMINGHAM FLOATS INTO ACTION FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Staff at the Digbeth-based Renault Birmingham enjoyed shouting ‘top o’ the mornin’ to ya’ to passers-by yesterday as they helped celebrate Birmingham’s annual St Patrick’s Day Parade with their very own float.

More than 80,000 people helped celebrate Sunday’s parade, which took place through the streets of Digbeth and the city centre, complete with Irish dancing, music and traditional entertainment.

The dealership, based in Birmingham’s Irish Quarter Digbeth, was among those taking part in the festivities in honour of the patron saint of Ireland.

As well as Renault Birmingham staff, the dealership also bought with it three sign-written Renault cars in the form of a  Mégane Renaultsport 250, a Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet and Clio Renaultsport 200.

The icing on the cake though was sales manager Declan O’Grady dressed as a leprechaun along with his eight-year-old daughter Darcy!

Declan said: “The event was a lot of fun and all the staff enjoyed being a part of the festivities. The parade travels right passed our showroom so it’s great to be a part of it.”

“Like Renault’s current advertising campaign, the St Patrick’s Day Parade certainly has plenty of Va Va Voom!”

The celebrations will continue until March 17th as part of Birmingham’s St Patrick’s Day Festival that has become one of the largest celebrations in Europe.

For more information on Renault Birmingham on High Street, Digbeth, call 0121 252 7000 or click onto www.renaultretail.co.uk. Alternatively click onto www.renault.co.uk/vavavoom to find out more about Renault’s Va Va Voom campaign.

Dinnages Renault supplies new Renault Trafic to Haywards Heath Town Council

NEWS FROM RENAULT AT DINNAGES, HAYWARDS HEATH

DINNGES RENAULT KEEPING HAYWARDS HEATH TOWN COUNCIL MOBILE!

Haywards Heath Town Council kept it local when they were on a mission to find a new van at the best price for their grounds maintenance team.

The council, based at the Town Hall on Boltro Road, bought the silver Renault Trafic Van from Dinnages Renault on Wivelsfield Road and it  will be used by the grounds team to enable them to fulfil their many and varied duties in looking after the town.

The keeys were handed over to the grounds maintenance team this week by sales executive Stuart Gadsdon.

Andrew Sturgeon, finance officer at Haywards Heath Town Council, said: “We have a van and a tipper truck on the fleet which we use to keep the outside areas of the town looking their best. Amongst other things, we’re responsible for the formally-planted flower beds, the cemetery, allotments, litter bins and hanging baskets, so we need the team to be able to travel around the town, complete with their equipment. In addition, we are often called upon to use our vehicles to carry out tasks that are not within our usual remit."

“The current van was reaching the end of its useful life so we took the decision to replace it, but working extremely hard to ensure that we got the best value for money, not just with the cost of the van, but with servicing and maintenance.

“Renault came out best and the Trafic Van is very well suited to our needs.  As well as being the right size and having plenty of space for the equipment, it’s frugal on fuel and servicing will be convenient thanks to Dinnages’ close proximity.”

Stuart from Dinnages Renault added: “We’re very honoured to be supplying the town council and hope that this will be the start of a long- term relationship. We know that keeping costs down are absolutely crucial, particularly at this time, and we’re proud to be able to assist the council in this aim. The Trafic Van has won awards for its all-round practicality and flexibility and provides high levels of comfort and safety.”

3,000th customer at Hemming Renault in Chichester

NEWS FROM HEMMING RENAULT

For immediate release: Wednesday, 9th March 2011

HEMMING RENAULT MD’s 50th  PLATE CHANGE AND 3,000TH CUSTOMER!

The day you’re handed the keys to your brand new Renault is always cause for celebration, but there were at least 3,000 reasons to celebrate the handover of a Clio last week.

Elizabeth Lowe, from Chichester, took delivery of the Clio which was handed over by
Richard Hemming, managing director at Hemming Renault.

The occasion was equally an opportunity for celebration for Richard too as the handover took place on the 52nd plate change day of his career.

Elizabeth, who works at Heathrow airport looking after VIPS, has had 15 Renault cars in 30 years, and her husband is a fan too, driving a Renault Modus.

She said: We do quite a lot of miles and the Clio is perfect for that as it’s reliable, comfortable and economical. I’ve had 15 Renaults, starting with a red Renault 5, then a silver one, then back to red!  I’ve now come full circle with a silver Clio!”

Richard Hemming added: “It’s been a momentous day and congratulations to Elizabeth on being our 3,000th customer since we opened the doors here as Hemming Renault in 2006.  We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last five years and have met so many fantastic  customers. Before taking on the Renault franchise in Chichester, I worked for many years in the motor trade, so unbelievably, I’ve overseen 52 plate changes! Of course, from 2000, the plate change became a twice-yearly event, but it’s still a milestone to remember and is down to the loyalty and support of our customers!”

HEALTHCARE HERO AWARDS WINNER DRIVES AWAY IN NEW RENAULT MEGANE

NEWS FROM RENAULT LONDON EAST

HEALTHCARE HERO AWARDS WINNER DRIVES AWAY IN NEW RENAULT MEGANE

NHS Employee of the Year winner and ‘healthcare hero’ Yunus Dudhwala has driven away in his prize – a new Renault Mégane Hatch.

Yunus, a 39-year-old father-of-three from Forest Gate, is the head of Chaplaincy and Bereavement Services at Newham University Hospital, and Muslim chaplain at Newham University Hospital NHS Trust.

He was shortlisted, along with 19 other nominees, for the title in the inaugural Healthcare, Excellence and Leadership awards 2010. The award was organised by 24/7 Media Group and held at the Royal College of Surgeons in London in October.

Yunus began work with the trust in 1998 when he started as a volunteer Iman and Muslim Chaplain before being offered a part-time contract as Muslim Chaplain. In 2003, he became Head of Chaplaincy, a full-time role, which saw him become the first person in the UK to lead a minority faith in the NHS.

He also acts as a faith adviser to the College of Healthcare Professionals on their National Professional Committee, giving advice on minority faith issues, and dedicates his working life to helping grieving families.

He has helped countless patients, families and staff at very difficult and challenging times, and has helped devise and change policies, practices and environment in the Trust to improve the experience for patients and families.

The award was set up to recognise excellence in the NHS and the ‘healthcare heroes’ are voted for by fellow healthcare professionals and members of the public. Yunus was voted as the winner and recently took delivery of his prize which was donated by Renault UK, a brand new Renault Mégane Hatch Dynamique TomTom dCi 130 FAP, worth £20,000.

He said: “I was extremely humbled and honoured by the support shown to me by staff in the hospital and the community at large for me to achieve this award. It is not only about me, it is an award that recognises the hard work of all staff in the NHS.

“This a great credit to chaplaincy as on many occasions it is a hidden department in hospitals, but the support received from the community shows how important spiritual care is to many patients and families, especially at the time of significant news and bereavement.

"It was a great evening, but when the announcement was made, it got even better! It was an amazing, amazing feeling as so many people who work in the NHS do a fantastic job and it’s great for them to be recognised.

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me. In reality, everyone who works in the NHS is a hero!"
University Hospital Lewisham midwife, Kathleen Johnson, and Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Nurse at West Middlesex University Hospital, Janice Scott, were the runners-up, and each won a 12-day cruise courtesy of Fred Olsen.

Scott May, sales manager at Renault London East, handed over the keys to Yunus’ car - complete with a brand new ‘11’ plate, at Yunus’ nearest dealership, Renault London East, in Ilford this week.

He said: “Congratulations to all of the finalists who contribute so much to the running of the NHS. We know that all NHS employees work hard and go beyond the call of duty, so we know that to win the award, Yunus offers something pretty special. We hope that he loves his Mégane Hatch which is a car that’s full of Joie de Vivre and renowned for its comfort, safety and low CO2 emissions.”

SSSSSSSSHHH! HARWOODS, ISLE OF WIGHT, SALES EXECUTIVE PLEDGES SILENCE FOR COMIC RELIEF!

NEWS FROM HARWOODS RENAULT

SSSSSSSSHHH! HARWOODS SALES EXECUTIVE PLEDGES SILENCE FOR COMIC RELIEF!

A talkative sales executive at Harwoods Renault in Wootton has pledged silence for a day to raise money for the Comic Relief Appeal on Friday, 18th March.

Richard Harris, who works at the dealership, is well-known amongst his colleagues for being something of a chatterbox and was challenged by his team to remain silent all day. The only exception is talking to customers or answering the phone.

In return, his colleagues will sponsor him to raise money for the forthcoming Comic Relief appeal.

He said: “I ran the Great South Run last year in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, but I have a feeling that being silent all day is going to be much harder! Working in sales involves a lot of talking to people, so keeping schtum is going to make the day very interesting!”

His boss, Paul Hunt, sales director at Harwoods Renault, added: “Richard talks quite a lot, so we thought this would really put him to the test. Although he’s allowed to talk to customers, we’ll be providing him with a notepad to communicate! In return, we will chip in to raise as much as possible for Comic Relief which is a great charity which helps people in need all over the world.”
