A visit to a nearby car dealership helped 20 schoolpupils from Mulberry School to get to grips with a project called “Car of the Future”.

The visit to Renault London East this week helped the pupils, aged between 12 and 15, to understand more about the car industry and how manufacturers have adapted their cars to ensure they’re as environmental as possible.

The pupils were invited to design a car for the future, so also heard from Renault London East staff on the features that customers like to have, car designs and transport needs.

Mike Davis, science teacher at Mulberry School, said: “We’re aiming to raise the pupils’ awareness of the need to move away from fossil fuels, to develop their creativity and also to learn about sustainable resources in car design, so it was very useful to be able to look at how a car dealership works and put the methods into practice.”

Jason Sayers, general manager at Renault London East, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the girls’ visit. They spent the morning looking around the dealership, finding more about the whole car manufacturing process from design, production to sales and marketing.

“As their project was to design a car for the future, it was useful for the girls to hear more about fuel emissions and how Renault has strict criteria for its cars called eco2 to ensure they are economical and ecological.

“Additionally, Renault is set to launch the electric version of its popular Kangoo Van later this year, and with three more vehicles on the way next year, is the only manufacturer to provide a full range of electric vehicles.”
