MOTHER AND SON TEAM UP AT BRISTOL STREET RENAULT IN GLOUCESTER

Bristol Street Renault in Gloucester is keeping it in the family after recently employing a mother and her 17-year-old son.

Jackie Coleshill, from Kilcot, recently started in the accounts department at the dealership which moved last year to brand new premises in Ramsdale Road, Gloucester. Bristol Street is funding her studies for an AAT accounting qualification at Gloucester College. The part-time course lasts for one year with the possibility of studying further for two or three years.

She said: “I am so grateful for the opportunity. With hundreds of people applying to get each job that’s advertised at the moment, I was delighted to get the job and then the offer of training was the icing on the cake.”

While working in the accounts department, her son Ryan called her from Newent College to ask if there was any work experience available. A call to the service manager saw Ryan gain two weeks in the busy workshop.

Jackie added: “Ryan is a hard worker and enjoyed his work experience so much that he was offered a three-year apprenticeship and this week will be going to the training centre in Doncaster for classroom-based training which complements his on-the-job training.

“The apprenticeship is a great opportunity and the level of training and support fits in exactly with what’s needed in the workshop.”

Apprentices are trained to meet the servicing requirements of Renault cars and vans, as well as gaining knowledge of Renault vehicle maintenance and diagnostics. As graduates of the programme, apprentices qualify as Renault Technicians, and receive the Renault Advanced Apprenticeship Certificate awarded by the Motor Industry Training Council, which is endorsed by Renault and City & Guilds.  In addition, apprentices who graduate through the Renault programme attain a level three NVQ which means their qualifications are recognised across the industry.
